Scrambling

Introduction to Scrambling & Advanced Scrambling
Scrambling terrain covers the fluid area between walking and climbing and is an awe inspiring way to get off the beaten track and visit places where few people tread. Ridges, buttresses and even gills can offer challenging routes through the mountains which are within the reach of most walkers with a little training. Our flexible courses are tailored to your level of experience and your future aspirations and will cover the following;

  • Movement skills
  • Route finding
  • Scrambling equipment
  • Using the rope for protection
  • Retreating from the route
  • Classic scrambles

Location
MTN Adventure are based in the Lake District with some of the UK's best scrambling on our doorstep. We are also happy to run these courses in the mountains of Scotland, including the Cuillin hill of Skye, or North Wales

Previous experience
The Introductory course is for those people with previous hill walking experience and are reasonably hill fit. There is no expectation of previous climbing experience but a good head for heights is very useful.
The Advanced course is for those folk who which to move on to harder scrambles and easy climbs often with the protection of a rope.

Dates
We can happily run this course on any dates in April through to September. Courses are usually two to five days in length

Price
£220 per day plus £30 per additional person up to a maximum ratio of 1:2

Included
  • Instruction by qualified Mountaineering Instructors (Association of Mountaineering Instructors)
  • Safety and group equipment including climbing ropes and a  first aid kit
Not included
  • Accommodation
  • Food and drink
  • Transport to, from and during the course

Equipment
  • Rucksack: 40 litre day pack with waterproof liner
  • *Climbing helmet
  • *Climbing harness
  • Waterproof Jacket & trousers
  • Walking boots with good grip and ankle support
  • Warm hat & gloves.
  • Walking trousers. Not Cotton
  • T-Shirt/Shirt/ Thermal: Made of a wicking material. Not Cotton.
  • Fleece: Thin fleece.
  • Jacket: Primaloft or thick fleece.
  • Socks to wear with Boots.
  • Water bottle or Thermos
  • Lunch
  • Head Torch and spare batteries
  • Whistle & Orange survival bag
  • Trekking Poles (Optional)
  • Camera (Optional)
  • Personal medication

If you have any queries regarding equipment then please contact us for advice and recommendations. We have a small pool of equipment available for use including maps, compasses, waterproof jackets, rucksacks, climbing helmets, belay plates, karabiners, ice axes, crampons, ice tools and snow shovels. There is no additional charge for the loan of this equipment. Please contact us to check availability.
