End of a great week helping Chris put the final touches to his preparation for his MIC re-assessment. We were based in Aviemore with the accessible Northern Corries right on our doorstep. The weather and climbing conditions were very variable, from traditionally Scottish to dry rock and sunshine. The main focus was on mountaineering and looking after clients on a variety of terrain with and without a rope. Pretty much every inch of the Fiacaill Ridge was explored plus a visit to Ciste Crag on an extremely windy day.
We also took the opportunity to grab a couple of good routes - Ordinary Route IV 5 in Sneachada and Andromeda IV 4 in Lochan. Relief to see the crux of the latter getting tech 6 in some guidebooks for an ascent in unconsolidated conditions as it proved a wee bit tricky! Unfortunately we also witnessed someone taking a slide from the slopes to the west of the Fiacaill Ridge. Mountain Rescue were quickly on scene with the assistance of Rescue 137 so we retrieved the gentleman's axe and crampon from the headwall and continued on our way.
